Day 1 · Understand the movement · 1/7
Explanation · foundations

What is Impressionism?

Impressionism is an art movement that developed in France in the second half of the nineteenth century. Its artists were interested in how the world looks at a particular moment: in a particular light, weather and movement.

The subject matters together with the way we see it. A stack of wheat can be given form through patches of light and shadow, while leaving the brushstrokes visible.

Today: understand the main idea and recognise its features. By the end of the week: explain the movement and its differences in your own words.
